Happy Fair!

Again this year I packed myself up and took myself to Oregon Country Fair. And once again, what a wonderful experience. Only my 2nd time, I'm coming to understand why it ends up being so special to so many folks, and they keep coming back year after year.

As soon as you arrive at the campsite (you don't have to camp there, but that's the only way to really enjoy fair), people with big smiles dressed in ridiculous and amazing costumes and outfits wish you "Happy Fair" as they guide you through the admittance process. You must hear that phrase over 100 times during fair from volunteers, friends and complete strangers, some of whom become friends. It's always genuine and always welcome!

I thought Portland people were weird and friendly and unreliable - but Fair takes it to a whole 'nother level. Everyone shares, welcomes you, People consider the folks they see every year to be family - but not the annoying kind that you're obligated to see. Sometimes you can't even find your friends or you just decide to sit by the water instead and wait for the fire to start. But it matters not as you always find your way back! You get lost, you get found, and if you're doing it right, you find yourself a little each time!
